A Complete and total re-evaluation of everything.

I haven't posted in this blog for over two years. The main reason being the birth of my daughter taking over my life and the second because I have completely re-evaluated the way that I eat and as a result have struggled to find baking that fits.

I use to eat  everything. I was blessed with zero food allergies and a sense of adventure when it came to eating. But I never felt good. I almost always had a stomach ache and when my asthma got increasingly worse during pregnancy I decided to re-evaluate my diet. My first step was to remove dairy. This made a significant difference in my breathing, however made me sad all day because I love butter and cheese and all things dairy. But I also love breathing so, I have seriously cut back on the dairy. I still indulge in it every once and a while but with the exception of butter ( which doesn't seem to bother me) I am dairy free  day to day.

The next to go was meat and this was a terrible mistake. Being vegan just didn't work for me. I was hungry all day and dreamed of bacon day in and day out. I was also breast feeding at the time and had very low production. I am not sure if this was related to my vegan diet or not but I am curious to see what happens next time now that meat has re-entered my life.

After I added meat back in I eliminated wheat with great results. The post-partum depression I had been battling for almost year went away. My moods evened out and again I saw improvements to my asthma.

My husband and I came across a cook book called Nourishing Traditions. It is based on the research of Weston A Price, a doctor who looked at the foods of some of the healthiest (and happiest) groups of people on the planet, and found some really interesting connections with an emphasis on fermented grains and foods, raw dairy and high levels of saturated fat.  I am not a researcher and am not interested in rewriting his research for you but I strongly recommend you check out the organizations website.

Another great website that I used to help form my new diet is dietdoctor.com. It was created by a Swedish family doctor named, Andreas Eenfeldt. He places an emphasis on eating low carbohydrates, little to no grains and high amounts of fat. This is hands down one of the best diets I have ever tried. It is rich with butter, whipping cream and bacon. I seriously recommend you check it out. People on the diet have had immense success in weight-loss and diabetes control.

I also spend a lot of time reading about and cooking/baking Paleo recipes. The fact that they are grain free and dairy free makes them an easy choice.

At the end of the day, I not sure if I adhere to anyone of these diets perfectly. I am doing my best to try and find my footing and to find out what is the healthiest way I can eat and still enjoy life.  What is great about all three of these diets is that they all place an emphasis on whole, real food and that will be the basis on my blog. All of the recipes you will find here will be grain free, contain no artificial/processed sugars and will involve huge amounts of coconut oil and butter. Some will be super foods but most will be indulgences that take healthy, whole ingredients and turn them into treats for the whole family. Because eating healthy should also taste good.
